Headaches and migraines are extremely frustrating. If you suffer from this, you will know first hand how inconvenient these can be, not only to yourself but also to your friends and family.
What
There are different types of headaches and it is extremely important that the correct diagnosis is made in order to effectively treat this.
There are several types of headaches that not even Physiotherapists can deal with and also types of headaches that need our help as well as your GP’s. On the other hand there are some headaches that not even the best medication can help.
Cluster headaches generally arise without warning and the key differentiating factor is one sided head pain that does not change sides, generally this type of headache is worse around your eye.
According to the International classification of headaches, a tension type headaches last from 30 minutes to 7 days. Furthermore other symptoms include both sides of the head, a tightness feeling, mild to moderate intensity and not aggravated by activity. Tension headaches do not have any feelings of nausea associated with them.
A Cervicogenic headaches is a headache which is a result of tight muscles or joints around the neck. This can be made worse by movement or posture and is also a common side effect of whiplash and associated injuries.
However, it is extremely common that your headache has a contribution from all three categories of headaches.
Assessment and Management

Once the cause of your headache has been established, we will assist you the management, both in clinic and with advice for at home.

- Home exercise programs (strength, range of motion and balance)
- Home management advice
